Reading Football Odds and Lines
Betting boards list three main football lines for every game. Here is how they read, using an example matchup (example odds only):
| Team | Spread | Total | Moneyline |
|---|
| Favourite | -6.5 (-110) | O 44.5 (-110) | -280 |
| Underdog | +6.5 (-110) | U 44.5 (-110) | +230 |
- Moneyline: pick the outright winner. A minus number marks the favourite and shows what you stake to win $100, so -280 means $280 to win $100. A plus number marks the underdog and shows what a $100 stake wins, so +230 returns $230 profit.
- Point spread: the favourite must win by 7 or more to cover -6.5. The underdog covers +6.5 by winning outright or losing by 6 or fewer.
- Total (over/under): bet on whether the combined final score goes over or under 44.5, whoever wins.
The -110 in brackets is the price, often called the juice or vig: stake $110 to win $100. Pricing both sides at -110 rather than even money is how the sportsbook builds in its margin. Our help guides cover American odds, moneylines and totals in more detail.
Football Spread Betting
The point spread is the standard way to bet football because it turns a mismatch into an even proposition. The favourite gives up points, the underdog gets them, and you're betting on the margin rather than the winner.
Because football is scored mostly in field goals and touchdowns, some winning margins come up far more often than others. That is why the half-point, known as the hook, carries so much weight. A favourite at -3.5 needs to win by four, while at -3 a three-point win is a push and your stake is refunded. Which margins matter most depends on the league, so check the league page before you bet; our point spread guide covers the basics.
If you want a different cushion, alternate spreads let you buy points for a safer number at a shorter price, or sell points for a longer price.
Player Props and Same Game Parlays
Player Props
Player props let you bet on individual performances rather than the result: passing yards, rushing attempts, receptions, longest reception or an anytime touchdown scorer. Ozoon's Prop Builder lets you create your own, including combined and head-to-head player props.
Same Game Parlays
Same Game Parlays combine several selections from one game, such as a player to score, a team moneyline and the over, into a single bet. Every leg has to win for the parlay to pay, so treat them as an entertaining extra rather than a core bet.
In-Play Football Betting
In-play football betting lets you bet as the game unfolds. Spreads, totals and moneylines update after every drive, turnover and score, so you can react to game flow, halftime adjustments, a weather change or an early injury. Every game in progress is on the live betting page, Cash Out is available on singles and parlays before and during the game, and the football live betting rules explain how in-play bets are settled.
Live betting also opens markets you can't bet before kickoff, such as the result of the next drive (touchdown, field goal, punt or turnover) and quarter-by-quarter totals. Prices move quickly, so settle on a plan before you open the live board.
Football Futures
Futures are bets on how a season ends: league champion, conference and division winners, season win totals and individual awards. Prices are longest before and early in the season, then shorten as contenders separate. The trade-off is a bigger potential return in exchange for money tied up for weeks or months.

Football Betting Tips
These aren't picks, just habits that make football betting more considered.
Respect the hook
A half-point either side of a common winning margin can turn a push into a win, or a win into a push. Shop the number, not just the team.
Watch the wind
It's the weather factor that matters most for totals. Sustained winds of roughly 25 km/h (15 mph) or more make deep passes and long field goals harder, and totals often drop to match.
Follow quarterback news
No position moves a football spread more. Check the injury report before you bet, and again before kickoff.
Know the league
Scoring patterns and rules differ between leagues, so habits from one don't always carry over to another.
Keep futures small
They're fun to follow all season but tie up your money.
Set a budget
Decide how much you're happy to spend before the week starts, and never chase losses. It's a long season; nothing on one weekend needs chasing.
Bet Responsibly
Betting on football should be fun, not a way to make money. Only bet what you can afford to lose, and take a break if it stops feeling like entertainment.
You can set limits on your account or take time out whenever you need to. See Responsible Gaming for the tools available, or Self Exclusion to block your account.
Football Betting Offers
Football betting offers at Ozoon change through the season, with promotions built around the biggest weeks of the calendar, including the NFL welcome bonus. See the Promotions page for current offers, and read the bonus terms and conditions before you opt in.

Football Betting FAQs
What happens if a spread bet lands exactly on the line?
It's a push. If a team at -7 wins by exactly 7, your stake is refunded in full. Spreads with a half-point, like -6.5, can't push. See the football betting rules for full settlement details.
When are football lines posted?
Lines for the next round of games usually go up after the previous games finish, then move through the week as injury news and betting action come in. Exact times for each league and market are on our odds posting schedule.
Can I combine player props and spreads from the same game?
Yes. A Same Game Parlay lets you put several selections from one game, such as a player's anytime touchdown and their team's point spread, on a single bet slip. Every leg must win for the bet to pay.
What are football futures?
Bets on season-long outcomes such as a league champion, division winner or award. They're settled when the result is decided, which can be months after you bet.
